The idea of slow living–taking time to consider the way that your life impacts the world and the people around you– is intriguing to say the least. A slow lifestyle breeds steadier emotions, thoughtfulness, a more connected world view.  It’s less about the immediate and more about the long-term effects of your actions–even those as small as buying a new pair of shoes.

Mohinders is making the transition to a slower, more conscious existence beautiful and easy to achieve from the feet up. The company was founded in 2012 after CEO Michael Paratore stumbled upon his ideal shoe in an open air market and was later unable to find a replacement pair. After searching and searching, he decided to go straight to the source–local artisans–for a new pair, and thus Mohinders was born.

Specializing in handmade and expertly crafted sandals, slides, and flats, every pair of Mohinder’s shoes are made in India with meticulous care by fairy-compensated skilled artisans. Each shoe features woven water buffalo leather uppers which are extremely durable and unexpectedly classic–a perfect combination for anyone looking to pare back and live essentially.

Adopting a slow lifestyle doesn’t have to mean moving off the grid and raising chickens in your backyard, and it doesn’t have to be daunting or incredibly time consuming. It can begin by taking small steps to ensure that the goods you use on a regular basis were intentionally made and will last a lifetime.
